Youth Empowerment
Our award-winning RISE programme for young people aged 16 to 24 years old living in Southwark and neighbouring boroughs, provides a safe space for participants to tackle the problems they face and realise their ambitions.
We offer long-term 1:1 mentoring, group workshops, crisis navigation support, and special trips and events that deal with issues such as social isolation and exclusion, worklessness, poor health and wellbeing, lack of confidence and negative life experiences.
We have recently received funding (from the Mayor of London through the Propel initiative) to expand the RISE programme, allowing us to significantly increase the numbers of young people we can work with.
Referrals for the 2023/24 cohorts have closed but we will begin recruiting for our 2024/25 cohort shortly. 1:1 mentoring sessions for the next cohort will begin in June 2024 and group workshop are due to start in July 2024.
Here’s what some of our RISE participants have to say about the programme
Positivity
“RISE has positive vibes, gives me lots of support and helps me think of the future. It makes me feel wanted.”
S, aged 20
A safe place
“I don’t think I ever had a safe space but if I am asked now, I would say RISE is my safe space. But I also don’t want to say it because I don’t want to Jinx it. I don’t want to lose it.”
F, aged 18
Confidence building
“RISE has helped me to build my confidence and self-esteem. Most importantly, it helped me to be myself and exclude what others think I need to be.
T, aged 20
“I am not comfortable sharing emotions anywhere else. I feel less judged. In fact, I feel myself judge myself less when I am here.”
A, aged 18
Be together
“I feel I am not alone. I mean not only as someone who faces mental health issues of loneliness. But, also now I feel, I don’t have to face it alone.”
R, aged 17
